Abstract:

The aim of this experiment was to assess the effects of using saturated fatty acid (SFA) and some unsaturated fatty acid (UFA) sources in finishing period on performance, fat deposition and blood metabolites of broiler chickens. One hundred and forty four 28-d old male broiler chickens were randomly assigned to 4 treatments and 6 replicates in a completely randomized design. Four isocaloric/isonitrogenous diets containing 5% tallow fat (TF) as SFA source or olive oil (OO), soybean oil (SO) and canola oil (CO) as UFA sources were provided during finisher period (from 29-42 d of age). Average daily feed intake (ADFI) and average daily weight gain (ADWG) of birds fed TF were significantly (P0.05) as compared to those fed SO and CO from 29-42 d of age. Relative weight of bile sac in birds fed TF diet, were significantly (P

Effects of Varying Levels of Oxidized Fat and Copper Sulfate on Broiler Performance, Carcass Traits, Blood Metabolites and Immune Cells

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of different levels of oxidized fat (yellow grease) and copper sulfate on performance, carcass traits, blood metabolites and immune cells of broilers. This study was carried out as a 3 × 2 factorial experiment with 3 levels of oxidized fat (0, 2 and 4%) and 2 levels of copper sulfate (0 and 300 mg/kg) in 6 treatments, 3 replicates and 12 ...

Effect of dietary fat sources on fatty acid deposition and lipid metabolism in broiler chickens.

The hypothesis tested was that dietary vegetable fats rich in saturated fatty acids, when compared with a vegetable oil rich in linoleic acid, increase fat deposition in broiler chickens and affect synthesis or oxidation, or both, of individual fatty acids. Diets with native sunflower oil (SO), a 50:50 mix of hydrogenated and native SO, palm oil, and randomized palm oil were fed to broiler chic...
